• Hello!

I am Colin Parsons, the Health and Physical Education teacher here at The Shore Center for Students with Autism. I went to West Chester University to receive my Bachelors in Health Sciences with an Adapted PE Minor. After graduating I landed myself here at The Shore Center where I have loved it ever since! During my physical education classes I work on student's individual successes through goal-oriented progress and practice. Through engaging and goal-oriented activities, the students at the Shore Center become actively aware of what it takes to "be active" through sport and exercise. All activities are group oriented and are adapted/modified depending on the students joining my lessons.

Health education is also provided at our school. Some topics we go over are MyPlate (food groups), how to control our emotions (anger, happiness, sadness, etc.), our organs (digestive system), bones (skeletal system), and many others. Many of my lessons can be found on "The Great Body Shop" website where there are wonderful packets made up just for our health classes and include manners, being kind to others, and building the right attitude towards life as a whole!

During my time at the Shore Center I have been head coordinator of the Family Picnic event held in October. This time involves families of the Shore Center coming together to enjoy family fun (bounce houses, face painters, clowns, magician, music, complimentary picnic food, ice cream station, and popcorn station). I also am the head coordinator of Field Day that happens towards the end of the year. During this time students show off what they have learned throughout the year in Physical Education.
