A Message from “Dr. D”
Principal of The Shore Center
Hello! My name is Dr. Dionne Ledford (my students and staff know me as “Dr. D”…smile) and I am proud to be in my fourth school year as the principal of The Shore Center!
Although I am only in my fourth school year here at The Shore Center, this is actually my 29th year as an Educator, having started my career as a Special Education Teacher in Newark at UMDNJ, before transitioning to Montclair Public Schools and eventually Holmdel Twp. Public Schools where I served as a Special Education Teacher for 3 years before becoming the Assistant Principal of the primary school. While serving as an Assistant Principal in Homdel, I worked in collaboration with the superintendent to implement the district’s new Autism Program in the Fall of 2004. Having played a major role in establishing a quality program for students on the Autism Spectrum within that school community used to be the professional accomplishment that I was the most proud of… until I became the principal of The Shore Center! J
The Shore Center uses a verbal behavior methodology to teach the strategies / skills necessary for students to achieve independence. Our staff works collaboratively, including our parents and throughout the community to create learning opportunities that promote student progress towards mastery of individualized objectives with the ultimate goal being to help our students become independent, productive citizens within their communities. I am proud of what this school has accomplished on behalf of students on the Autism Spectrum and look forward to many more years of serving this amazing school as principal!
