Mr. Michael Hitchcock
Hi my name is Michael Hitchcock. Everyone here at the Shore Center calls me Mr. Mike. I am a Georgian Court University Alumni with a Bachelors in Education and Psychology and a Masters degree in Applied Behavior Analysis. I hold certifications as a teacher for grades K-6 with the Students with Disabilities endorsement, as well as a Board Certified Behavior Analyst. I have been working in the field of special education since 2005. I first starting working for the Bayshore Jointure Commission (Shore Center for Students with Autism) in 2006 as a paraprofessional, substitute teacher, and as a maternity leave placement teacher. I left in 2012 to finish my graduate school coursework and returned to the Shore Center in September 2015 as the school's behaviorist. Some of my responsibilities here at the school include helping the teachers troubleshoot programming as well as challenging behavior issues within the classrooms, training both staff and parents in best practice behavior management strategies and evidence based practices. I also work closely with the teachers and our monthly consultants to ensure recommendations are both conducive to the classroom as well as achievable and produce sustainable results.
Collectively, I serve as a resource to both the staff and the families in addressing a spectrum of behaviors ranging from increasing rates of skill acquisition, activities of daily living, reduction and replacement of challenging behaviors, increasing independence, and improving any behaviors of social significance. In addition to my role here at the Shore Center, I am the assistant director of a pediatric behavior therapy company, and a BCBA consultant for a non-profit organization. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my fiance', playing guitar, listening to live music, and playing with my dog.
