Yurkiw, Stephanie

Hello,

My name is Stephanie Yurkiw(Brosnan), and I have worked at The Shore Center since 2013. My educational background includes a Bachelor's Degree in Special Education and a Major in English from Georgian Court University. As an educator, I strive to create a welcoming environment full of joy and learning. I celebrate students’ uniqueness and individual achievements. I recently had the pleasure of attending the high school graduation ceremony of many students from my first class at The Shore Center.

I'm passionate about helping students succeed in the future and gain confidence in themselves. As their teacher, I will advocate for them and work with parents, therapists, and co-workers to create a strong support system. I have led and participated in clubs or school special events that include: Read Across America, 100 Day Committee, Prom Committee, Family Picnic, School Spirit Committee, and more. I'm proud to have been selected as The Shore Center's Teacher of the Year for the 2016-2017 school year. My favorite subjects to teach are literacy and hands-on science experiments. My classroom has a library and a relaxing/sensory corner to create a comfortable/relaxing space.

Outside of the classroom, I enjoy walks, nature, reading, art, spending time with family and friends, and relaxing at home with my husband and cat Axel. I love Italian food, Hello Kitty, flowers, starfish, and the beach. My favorite quote is from The Starfish Story (adaptation from"The Star Thrower” by Lauren Eiseley): "It made a difference to that one.”
